Step 1 - Check your Options |
The Paste Options smart tag will not appear unless you have chosen to display the Paste Options buttons. | ||
Check your (Tools > Options)(Edit tab, Show Paste Options buttons). |

Step 2 - Displaying the Smart Tag |
Using the smart tag is an alternative to using the | ||
This will appear basically whenever you paste anything into a cell. The drop-down menu will appear in the bottom left corner of the cell. |

Keep Source Formatting - Retains the formatting to match the existing formatting. | ||
Match Destination Formatting - Copies the formatted data into a differently formatted table without having to re apply the formatting. | ||
Values and Number Formatting - Pastes the values without losing any number formats. | ||
Keep Source Column Widths - Retains column widths. This is identical to "Keep Source Formatting" except that the column widths are pasted as well. | ||
Formatting Only - Leaves the contents of the cells alone and just applies the formatting. Identical to the Format Painter. | ||
Link Cells - Instead of pasting the contents of the cut or copied cell, it pastes a formula cell reference to the source cells, ignoring the source formatting. |
Step 3 - Things to Remember |
The Smart tag will only appear when data has been copied and pasted. It will not appear when data has been cut and pasted. |
