Shortcut Keys

 
 

(Ctrl + Shift + 8) - Selects the current region (block of contiguous cells).

 
 

(Ctrl + 1) - Displays the (Format > Cells) dialog box.

 
 

(Alt + Enter) - Enters a carriage return in a cell.

 
 

(End + Home) - Moves to the last "used" cell on the active worksheet. This cell is only updated when the workbook is closed.

 
 

(Ctrl + End) - Moves to the last "used" cell in the active worksheet. This cell is only updated when the workbook is closed.

 
 

(Ctrl + Home) - Moves to the first cell in the active worksheet (i.e. "A1").

 
 

(Ctrl + Backspace) - Selects the current active cell (scrolling if necessary).

 
 

(Ctrl + Down Arrow) - Moves to the last row in the current region.

 

 

Tools > Options

 
 

(Edit tab, Edit Directly in Cell) - If you switch this option off you will not be able to edit the contents directly in the cells but will have to use the Formula Bar.

 
 

(Edit tab, Move selection after Enter) - Lets you change the direction to move in after pressing Enter.

 
 

(Calculation tab, Precision As Displayed) - Changes all the underlying values in your worksheet to be the same as their display values. This cannot be undone.

 
 

(Transition tab, Transition Navigation Keys) - Lets you use the shortcut key (End, Shift + Enter) to extend the selection to the last cell in the active row.

 
 

(Transition tab, Transition Formula Entry) - You can make every entry that begins with a number to be interpreted as a formula. Keep in mind if you want to enter a string you must prefix it with an apostrophe.
