What is the Euro Currency Tools ?

 
 

The Euro Currency Tools provides all the necessary functionality for working with the Euro currency.

 
 

This add-in lets you quickly insert the Euro symbol as well as allowing you to convert values from one currency to another.

 
 

In fact this add-in includes the following functionality:

 
 

1) Euro button added to the Formatting toolbar.

 
 

2) A EuroValue toolbar to allow easy conversion.

 
 

3) The worksheet function EUROCONVERT() to quickly convert values to euros.

 
 

4) An additional Euro Conversion command on the Tools drop-down menu.

 

 

Installing the Add-in

 
 

Before you can use this add-in you must install it. This can be done by selecting (Tools > Add-ins).

 
 

Select the add-in called Conditional Sum Wizard and press OK to install it.

When this add-in is installed an additional EuroValue toolbar will be displayed and a "Euro Conversion" command will be added below the Protection command on the Tools drop-down menu.

When the Euro Currency Tools add-in is installed a Euro Conversion button is added to the Standard toolbar.

 
 

 Euro Conversion - Displays the Euro Conversion dialog box.

 

 

Euro button on Formatting Toolbar

 
 

When the Euro Currency Tools add-in is installed a Euro button is added to the Formatting toolbar.

 
 

 Euro - Applies a number format to display the Euro symbol.

 
 

The actual number format that is applied is as follows:

EuroValue Toolbar

 
 

When the Euro Currency Tools add-in is installed a floating EuroValue toolbar is displayed.

 
 

This toolbar displayed the value in the active cell for the conversion which is selected from the drop-down list.

 
   
 

Choose any conversion from the list and the currency conversion for the value in the active cell is displayed on the toolbar.

 
 

This add-in only includes the conversion from the following twelve countries:

 
 

ATS - Austrian Schilling ( 1 euro = 13.7603 )

 
 

BEF - Belgian Franc ( 1 euro = 40.3399 )

 
 

DEM - Deutsche Mark ( 1 euro = 1.95583 )

 
 

ESP - Spanish Peseta (1 euro = 166.386 )

 
 

FIM - Finnish Markka ( 1 euro = 5.94573 )

 
 

FRF - French Franc ( 1 euro = 6.55957 )

 
 

GRD - Greek Drachma ( 1 euro = 340.750 )

 
 

IEP - Irish Pound ( 1 euro = 0.787564 )

 
 

ITL - Italian Lira ( 1 euro = 1936.27 )

 
 

LUF - Luxembourg Franc ( 1 euro = 40.3399 )

 
 

NLG - Netherlands Guilder ( 1 euro = 2.20371 )

 
 

PTE - Portuguese Escudo ( 1 euro = 200.482 )

 
 

For example lets suppose that we wanted to know how much 100 Irish Pounds is worth in Euros.

 
   
 

This value can be easily copied and pasted onto the worksheet

 

 

EUROCONVERT() worksheet function

 
 

When the Euro Currency Tools add-in is installed an additional EUROCONVERT() worksheet function is available.

 
 

This function can return any number converted from Euros to another member currency.

 
 

It can also convert any member currency back to Euros.

 
   

 

Euro Conversion command on the Tools drop-down menu

 
 

When the Euro Currency Tools add-in is installed an additional "Euro Conversion..." command will be added below the Track Changes command.

 
 

This command should be used when you have a range of values you want to convert.

 
 

For example lets suppose we wanted to convert the range of values in cells "B2:F7" from Belgian Francs into Euros.

 
 

Select (Tools > Euro Conversion) to display the Euro Conversion dialog box.

 
   
 

Source Range - The range of cells containing the values you want to convert.

 
 

Destination Range - The destination range of cells or the upper left cell in the destination range.

 
 

From - The currency you want to convert from. This is the currency of the Source Range.

 
 

To - The currency you want to convert to.

 
 

Output Format - The currency format to display the resulting values. You have a choice of the currency format or the ISO three letter format or you can leave them as just numbers.

 
   

 

Advanced Euro Conversion Dialog Box

 
 

Clicking the Advanced button displays the Advanced Euro Options dialog box.

 
 

The Formula Options control what happens to any of the formulas in the Source Range.

 
   
 

Convert To values Only - This will convert all values and formulas to just values. This is the default.

 
 

Prompt to convert formulas - This will prompt you when it is about to convert a formula. This includes three additional options which include copying the original formula instead of modifying the formula; leave the cell blank or you can edit each formula individually.

 
   
 

Link new formulas to original data - Pastes formulas containing the EUROCONVERT() worksheet function with the same references used in the formulas.

 
 

Output full precision - Any converted currencies are usually calculated to six significant figures although this allows you to display the values in full.

 
 

Set triangulation precision to - The number of significant figures to use when performing any intermediate calculations between two European member currencies. This value can range from 3 to 15.

 

 

Things to Remember

 
 
  • The EUROCONVERT() worksheet function will always appear in lowercase.

     
     
  • This Excel add-in can be found in the following location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Library\EUROTOOL.xla.

     
     
  • There is also a www.microsoft.com - XP Euro Currency Converter Smart Tag which is available for Excel 2002 which contains similar functionality.
