IMABS(inumber)

 
 Returns the absolute value (modulus) of a complex number in x + yi or x + yj text format.

 inumberThe complex number for which you want the absolute value.

 REMARKS
 
  • In Excel 2007 (and later) this function has been removed from the Analysis ToolPak add-in and is available as standard.
     
  • In Excel 2003 this function is only available when you have the Analysis ToolPak add-in loaded.
     
  • If "inumber" is not in the form of x + yi or x + yj, then #NUM! is returned.
     
  • You can use the COMPLEX() function to convert real and imaginary coefficients into a complex number.

     EXAMPLES
     
     A
    1=IMABS("5+12i") = 13
    2=IMABS("3+4j") = 5
    3=IMABS("6i") = 6
    4=IMABS("4+6i") = 7.211
    5=IMABS("4+6k") = #NUM!
    6=IMABS("some text") = #NUM!
