What are Automatic Formats and Formulas

 
 

Excel tries to identify patterns as you create or extend a list.

 
 

(Tools > Options)(Edit tab, "Extend data range formats and formulas").

 
   

 

Automatic Formulas

 
 

If the preceeding 3 rows have a consistent formula then this formula is automatically added to any new rows.

Excel will not change (or insert) these automatic formulas until all the required parameters are present.

 
   

 

Automatic Formats

 
 

If the preceeding 3 rows have a consistent format then this format is automatically applied when any new rows are inserted below.

 
 

The formatting is applied as soon as the new row is inserted.
