What is the Default Template ?

When you select (File > New) to create a new presentation a blank presentation is displayed which uses the default template.

This is black text on a white background.

The template Blank.pot is automatically used for any blank presentations

When you open a new blank presentation you are only given one slide master the “Master Slide”. In order to create a separate “Title Slide” select the Slide Master first by View, Master, Slide Master then select Insert / NewTitleMaster

Default template location:

PowerPoint 2003 - C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

PowerPoint 2002 - C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

PowerPoint 2000 -

PowerPoint 97 -

Default Slide Master

Default Title Master

Default Colour Scheme

Creating your own Default Template

You can create your own default template

All you need to do is save it using the filename Blank.pot

This means that the Masters and the colour schemes will be copied from this presentation and not the boring default one.

To revert back to the original template just delete the Blank.pot file.

(File > Save As) save as type "Design template with .pot"

The folder will be automatically changed to the folder where the default templates are saved
