Rotating and Flipping Objects

You can rotate any PowerPoint object (or one that has been converted to a PowerPoint object).

1) Using the Free Rotate

2) Using the (Draw > Rotate and Flip) menu

To rotate an object select (Draw > Rotate or Flip)

This displays the dialog box that lets you select the type of rotation

You can choose Free Rotate click on a corner of the object and drag the object to the required angle.

After you insert an object you can shrink and stretch it to change it appearance

Rotate or Flip Toolbar

Select the object and select (Draw > Rotate or Flip)

In addition to the free rotation icon, there are also four pre-defined rotation icons

Free Rotate - Rotates a selected object to any degree. Select the object, click Free Rotate, and then drag a corner of the object in the direction you want to rotate it.

Rotate Left - Rotates the selected object 90 degrees to the left. This command is not available if the selected object cannot be rotated — a picture or an OLE object, for example.

Rotate Right - Rotates the selected drawing object 90 degrees to the right. This command is not available if the selected object cannot be rotated — a picture or an OLE object, for example.

Flip Horizontal - Flips the selected drawing object horizontally 180 degrees. This command is not available if the selected object cannot be rotated — a picture or an OLE object, for example.

Flip Vertical - Flips the selected drawing object or group vertically 180 degrees, that is, from top to bottom. This command is not available if the selected object cannot be rotated — a picture or an OLE object, for example.

Things to Remember

  • If you hold down Shift in PowerPoint 2003 you will be restricted to rotating by 45 degree angles.

  • Any inserted pictures, graphs and organisation charts will not flip or rotate until they have been converted to a PowerPoint object.
