Smart tags are a feature that help identify certain text and marks it as special.

(Tools > AutoCorrect Options)(Smart Tags tab)

You can indicate which types of smart tags you want to use

If you enable smart tags and one is detected in your presentation then the smart tag will be underlined with a little purple dotted line ??

When you point at it a special smart tag button will appear next to it.
