The administrators page of WSS sites are kept in a common folder called _layouts

By default NTLM Authentication is used.

Accept the default - allow anonymous and use SSL options (no for both)

Create a new application pool

When specifying a user account specify username and password of a domain account that has access to the database

Choose Windows Authentication

Recycle IIS Application Pool - WSS stores/caches a lot of information in memory

By default IIS recycles all application pools every evening

IISReset - this resets the entire web server flushing the cache of all the websites.
