Single Level Numbered Bullets |
The quickest way to add and remove numbered bullet points from your paragraphs is to use the Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar. | ||
Place the insertion point in the paragraph you want to add numbered bullets to and press the Numbering button. | ||
This button will apply the default numbered bullet format that you last used. |
Numbering - Applies the default numbering format to the selected paragraphs. |
Once a numbered bullet format has been applied to a paragraph pressing Enter will continue the numbered bullet format. | ||
The next consecutive number will automatically be used for the next bullet. |

Built-in Numbered Bullet Formats |
There are seven built-in bullet numbered formats that you can use. |

Whatever bullet or numbering format you used last, this becomes the default format. | ||
So the next time you use one of these buttons the last used bulleted list or numbered list format will be applied. |
Changing the Format |
You can easily change the format of a bulleted or numbered list by selecting (Format > Bullets and Numbering). | ||
Any changes made to the bullet points will affect the whole paragraph so there is no need to select the whole paragraph. | ||
The Numbered tab deals with single level numbered bullets. |

What is my Current Default ? |
There is no way of checking what bullet format is your default without using the Bullets button to find out. | ||
Displaying the (Format > Bullets and Numbering) dialog box will not display your current default format. | ||
This dialog box always displays the formatting that corresponds to the currently selected paragraph. | ||
If the current selection does not have a bullet format applied to it then "None" is selected when this dialog box is displayed. |
Understanding Indents and Tabs |
Bullet points use three important markers to determine where the bullet and the text will appear. |
First Line Indent - This is the distance from the left margin to the bullet and indicates if there is any indentation. All the built-in bullet formats are indented by 0.63cm. |
Left tab - This is the distance from the left margin to the first line of text. |
Hanging Indent - This is the distance from the left margin to the second and subsequent lines of text. |

Things to Remember |
If you move any of the paragraphs or cut and paste the numbers are automatically re-ordered consecutively. | |||
If you want to move selected text from a numbered list you need to include the paragraph mark as well |
