Symbols, Codes & Equations

 
 

The letters and symbols that appear on the keyboard are sufficient for most documents, although there may be times when you need to insert a foreign word containing symbols that are not in the English alphabet.

 
 

For mathematical use the Windows System font contains the Greek alphabet and a variety of mathematical symbols. There are foreign characters in most of the normal fonts.

 
 

To insert a symbol or foreign letter (Insert > Symbol) select the particular font required and all the symbols will be displayed.

 
 

To add a quick accent mark to a character, press (Ctrl + “’”(apostrophe), and type the character. To get a reverse accent mark type (Ctrl + “`”)

 


 

Foreign Languages

 
 

If a portion of a document or indeed all of it is to be written in a foreign language then Word needs to be aware of this (Tools > Language > Set Language)

 



 

Equation Editor

 
 

(Insert > Object) (Microsoft Equation 3.0) The floating toolbar should appear
