Document Sections

A Word document can be divided into three four categories:

  • Document - A document contains one or more sections.

  • Sections - A section contains one or more paragraphs.

  • Paragraphs - A paragraph contains one or more characters, including a paragraph mark.

  • Characters - A characeter is a single letter or number. The paragraph mark is a character.

Each one of the these categories has specific formatting associated with it.

    What is Character Formatting ?

This feature lets you stretch individual characters either horizontally or vertically. Large initial capitals (commonly known as “drop caps”) mean that the first letter of a word of a paragraph, formatted in capitals is dropped into the paragraph so that the first two or three line are pushed to one side.
