Step 1 - Selecting a Word

 
 

Double click on the word with the left mouse button.

 
   

 

Step 2 - Selecting part of a Word

 
 

Hold down Shift and use the arrow keys to increase the selection.

 
   

 

Step 3 - Selecting several Adjacent Words

 
 

Click inside the first word and then drag the mouse to increase the selection.

 
   

 

Step 4 - Selecting several Non Adjacent Words

 
 

Select the first word, hold down Ctrl and select the additional words.

 
   

 

Step 5 - Selecting a Line of Text

 
 

Move the cursor to the left margin area, point it at the line of text and click once

 
   

 

Step 6 - Selecting a Sentence

 
 

To select a sentence hold down the Ctrl key and click anywhere in the sentence

 
   
 

To extend a whole sentence, hold down Ctrl and click anywhere in the sentence

 

 

Step 7 - Selecting several Lines of Text

 
 

Click and drag in the left margin.

 
   

 

Step 8 - Selecting a Paragraph

 
 

1) Treble click inside any word within the paragraph

 
 

2) Move the cursor next to the left of the paragraph (until it changes to a right pointing arrow) and then double-click.

 
   

 

Step 9 - Selecting a large Block of Text

 
 

Click at the start, scroll to the end and then hold down Shoft and press the last point of the selection.

 

 

Step 10 - Selecting the Whole Document

 
 

1) Selecting (Edit > Select All) .

 
 

2) Using the shortcut key (Ctrl + A).

 
 

3) Move the cursor next to the left of the paragraph (until it changes to a right pointing arrow) and then triple-click.

 

 

Step 11 - Selecting a Rectangular Block

 
 

Hold down Alt and drag with the mouse.

 

 

Step 12 - Using Extend Mode (F8)

 
 

Press F8 to activate the EXTend in the status bar, keep pressing to select the required amount of text, eg, once = a word, twice = a sentence, three times = a paragraph, four times = a section and five times selects the whole document. press (Shift + F8) to reduce the selection one step at a time and to cancel the selection press Escape.

 

 

Step 13 - Things to Remember

 
 
  • (Shift + End) - Selects from the insertion point to the end of the line

     
     
  • To select a line position the pointer in the selection bar next to the line and click once

     
     
  • You can quickly deselect the text by clicking anywhere outside the current selection or by pressing any of the arrow keys.
