It is possible to insert page numbers without displaying the Header and Footer.

Select (Insert > Page Numbers)

In the position drop-down choose whether you want to place the page numbers in the header or the footer.

Choose the alignment for the page - either Left, Right, Centre, Inside or Out

Show on first page - This can be used if you do not want a page number on the first page.
