What is AutoCorrect ?

 
 

This feature tries to anticpate your mistakes and tries to correct them.

 
 

AutoCorrect comes with a large library of thousands of items and it also adds items automatically.

 
 

AutoCorrect can automatically locate several types of problems:

 
 
  • Problems with capitalisation

     
     
  • Problems with mistypying

     
     
  • Problems with no spaces or too many spaces

     
     
  • Inserting special symbols

     

     

    Remember that AutoCorrect and AutoText are very different. AutoCorrect happens automatically and there is nothing you can do to stop it, other than removing the entry from the list. AutoText however requires you to press the Tab key.

     

     

    You access the AutoCorrect features by selecting (Tools > AutoCorrect Options)

     
     

    AutoCorrect allows you to automatically correct common spelling mistakes, exchange text shortcuts for full text and quickly insert frequently used text.

     
     

    You can use the AutoCorrect feature as an easy way to enter special symbols.

     
     

    Any shorthand shortcuts you define in Excel will also be available in Word.

     

     

    Common AutoCorrect Entries

    Remember that AutoCorrect and AutoText are very different. AutoCorrect happens automatically and there is nothing you can do to stop it, other than removing the entry from the list. AutoText however requires you to press the Tab key

     
     

    You should put any long phrases that you commonly type in the AutoCorrect or AutoText. For a small number of phrases you can remember, use AutoCorrect. If you want to always make sure you get the right one use AutoText.

     
     

    You can even insert a table that has formulas already set up

     
     

    Any shorthand shortcuts you define in Word will also be available in Excel

     

     

    The AutoCorrect feature can automatically correct common spelling mistakes involving text, punctuation and capitalisation as you type. This feature can replace multiple words and fix grammatical errors. The AutoCorrect feature can be an enormous time saver and it is worth spending some time understanding how it works. Used correctly it will help you type faster.

     
     

    To add a word to the AutoCorrect, right mouse click the and select ??????

     
     

    This can be used as a shortcut for inserting technical terms ??????

     
     

    Whenever you type any characters Word compares the preceding characters with its large collection of AutoCorrect entries.

     
     

    You can use AutoCorrect to add your own typing errors and create your own shortchand typing shortcuts. Add your entries in the “Replace Text as you type” and “Replace With” boxes.

     
     

    It is a perfect place to put your signed signature, reference to your favourite web pages, hyperlinks plus other stuff.

     
     

    To add an entry (Tools > AutoCorrect) type in the key in the “Replace” box and your text in the “With” box. If entering any magic Alt characters make sure NumLock is on and hold down the Alt key while typing the four-digit number.

     
     

    You may wish to remove some of the entries which is easily done (Tools > AutoCorrect) click an entry and press delete

     
     

    One entry that is probably worth removing is the three periods.

     

     

    Used to insert frequently used text and graphics. With AutoCorrect Word automatically inserts as you type (ie, you can create abbreviations for words or phases. Use AutoText if you do not want it done automatically. You can print the AutoText entries by selecting a tick box in the print dialog box. My most useful ones are for sources on charts and tables.

     
     

    AutoCorrect can be used to change phrases. For example always change “could have been” to change to “could have been”

     
     

    To add a word or phrase (Tools > AutoCorrect)(AutoCorrect tab) Type your text into the Replace and With text boxes
