10) Can you describe the Menstrual Cycle ?
This is called menstration and lasts for about 28 days.
On days 1-5 if pregnancy has not occurred the uterus lining breaks down, tissue and blood are lost and is replaced with new tissue.
Fertilisation can only occur around day 14 when an egg is released from the ovary.
11) Can you describe Gestation ?
This is the name used to describe when an embryo is developing in the womb.
The baby receives food and oxygen from the blood through the placenta and umbilical cord.
In humans, gestation lasts 9 months.
12) What is the Urinary System ?
The urinary system is the body system that removes waste, controls water balance, and filters the blood to keep you healthy.
It's sometimes called the excretory system.
13) Can you describe the four different components ?
Kidneys - filter the blood and make urine.
Ureters - tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
Bladder - stores urine.
Urethra - the tube that carries urine out of the body.
14) What is Fertilisation ?
This is the joining of the male and female sex cells.
