Cardinal Numbers

Also known as Primary Numbers and Cardinals.
These are whole numbers (not fractions or decimals)
These numbers are for counting.
They are a general term used to describe how many of something there is.

Ordinal Numbers

These numbers are for ordering.
They indicate the position of something.
They are used to describe the position of something in a list.

Prime Numbers

A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 that can only be divided evenly by 1 and itself.
If a number is not prime, then it is a Composite Number
A composite has more than 2 factors.


Nominal Numbers

These are numbers that are used to refer to objects or categories.
They have a one to one relationship with something
For example bus numbers, bank sort-code, bank account number.


Summary Statistics

When you have a collection of numbers how can you describe what type of numbers you have ?
Is there a way of describing this data in a concise and accurate way?
The answer is yes, we can use Summary Statistics
Exactly which type of summary statistics we use will depend on the type of data that we are trying to describe.


Types of Summary Statistics

When our data is related to a single Quantity there are two main types of summary statistics
1) Measures of Location (Link - distributions/central-tendency) - what is the size of the numbers
2) Measures of Spread (or dispersion) (Link - distributions/dispersion) - how much do the numbers vary
Data that is concerned with a single Quantity is called "univariate data"
